The many facets of Multiple Myeloma

I am a end stage Multiple Myeloma Survivor. In 2004 I was given a few weeks to live and my husband told I would probably never leave the hospital. Hmmm. At the time my prognosis was very poor and I was in Renal failure probably from excess calcium leeched from my bones . I am noticing a large increase in young males being diagnosed with this life threatening disease. I think men have a harder time than woman, coping with cancer, let alone facing their mortality in such a rush. I believe if you look into the lives of these men that somewhere along the line either genetics or chemicals triggered this disease. Stress is another factor that sets up this scenario. I HAD a Non secretory form of MM and was told it was maybe harder to treat. There are no cancer markers per se for this, it is almost too late when you are diagnosed as the blood work, with the exception of red and white blood cell decrease, does not show much. I had a 95% plasma cell count, per bone marrow, not good. One has to rely on pain and varied complaints, and hope the doctor does not tell you that your imagination is causing the pain.In the next few days I would like to note my observations and add ways to help with the pain, suffering and self image problems that arise. .Myself I lost 5" of my Thoracic spine and part of my lumbar, I looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was 5'8" now I am 5'3" I have no waist and also was large in the bust area. All that has settled on my waist and I have rolls that I never had before. It took me a while to figure out what had happened to my body. I was so ill for so long that was a minor concern. I read a blog today about a young man and he was mentioning the loss of his normal body...Boy I can relate and I knew several people like me. I did NOT have any back surgery. I waited till all the lesions were gone and consulted with a neurologist. He told me. "Never let anyone touch your back, you can walk (mostly a few hundred yards without a cane and a walker for long strolls) as you can function." Several people I know of had the disc inserts etc but the material they use, in my humble opinion, is a little toxic. Has not been around long enough. MM patients do not need anything else to lower their immune system.Young Men have a family to fend for and this is another huge stress, often children and others to care for. I was fortunate, that while at the time I was at my worst, and our finances were stretched, but we were able to accommodate our daily life. Some of this applies to all cancers but MM is soooooooo painful and limits your physical abilities, it carries a heavier weight than some other cancers, although the GBM patients, have it worse, I would not want to go that route. We are all travelers on this path and what we can do to help each other is marvelous. When I read the blog Nick today atwww.nvdmyeloma.blogspot.comHe mentioned that he did not believe he was going to die. That is how it was for me, even though several times a week the hospital staff kept telling my husband that he was not preparing me for death. HA!So mental, physical, spiritual aspects of healing are very important in how we do each day. Do I have bad days yes, even though I am cancer free, but NEVER give up. Have a great week. Today I am posting a pic of me in 2006 when I was newly free of MM in my bone marrow but still had spine lesions. I have lost my hair since then and have a new head of hair. Now I AM GRAY!!!! but have a cute hairstyle.

Happy Easter and Blessings to All

I tried posting earlier but the blogsphere was inoperative. At this time many are struggling with loved ones who are very ill. Some have their own journey.
God has not forsaken you but loves you through these difficult times. He sent his son to represent us and heal us. The Jewish Passover/Seder is also a time of redemption. They Israelites were freed from their captors in Egypt.
The Seder is a celebration feast of the first 2 nights of Passover.
May you all have healing and serenity this season.

Not to be flippant, but we have to include the Easter Bunny, it always fascinated me to think of a Rabbit bringing eggs.
Here is some info:
The Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility lore. The Hare and the Rabbit were the most fertile animals known and they served as symbols of the new life during the Spring season.

The bunny as an Easter symbol seems to have it's origins in Germany, where it was first mentioned in German writings in the 1500s. The first edible Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s. These were made of pastry and sugar.

Hope you Easter is special and healing no matter what you believe!!!

Chemicals in the Environment-Releive Your Toxic Exposure

I am trying to catch up after a week of recovery and cleaning my office. I see more and more young people coming down with cancer. I have not touched much on my own specific form of cancer, as I wanted to include all cancer patients, and not just Multiple Myeloma.
Multiple Myeloma used to be very rare but now we see more and more of it popping up. I truly believe the reason for this is "chemical attack" On a posting on Cancer Compass one sufferer just found out where she used to live was a toxic wasteland as far as the water was concerned.
Read about it here. She was pregnant and drinking this water they now have deemed very toxic.
Camp LeJeune in California was known to have contaminated water and people are coming down with cancer.
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/military-admits-water-contamination-camp-lejeune-1980s/story?id=10152347&page=2
Every day we are subject to more and more chemicals and if there is big money involved it is just dismissed as a "conspiracy".
I try to lighten the load by not drinking sodas, although I see Coke (tm) has gone back to using sugar instead of other harmful substances,(in my opinion) in their regular sodas. Nothing wrong with a bit of sugar but all this other artificial stuff is making us toxic.
I wash my clothes in non toxic detergent. I use Amway but Shaklee, Oxy Plus, Malacca etc all have non perfumed washing powders. I use a natural underarm deodorant no perfume, I use Essential oils for perfume. They are natural and healing. I am sure many of you have the awful headaches, nausea etc these things bring on. It is the chemicals they use to perfume or whiten.
Have a shower or bath in natural soap. There are many who use perfumes to cover the lack of cleanliness. I use natural shampoo's and conditioner. Every bit adds a load to the immune system and liver. The poor liver cannot detox it fast enough. Educate yourself don't leave it to others. My cleaning products are all natural and my house is very clean. I add 2 drops of Young Living Lemon oil in the water to wash the floor. Smells wonderful and clean.
Look around your home and get rid of the unnecessary chemicals. I have a lovely lady who helps me clean. She has been having toxic migraines, and I am sure it is the exposure to the chemicals in her job. She is now using essential oils and other natural products to help her allay those headaches. Another friend has a job as a janitor and is in pre kidney failure. We detoxed his liver and added essential oil and he is no longer up for dialysis. He also now wears gloves more.
One can occasionally indulge in some "forbidden" food, but the word is occasionally. Like everything looking out for the small things prevents bigger things from happening. Have a great weekend!!

Natural Essential Oils for Healing and Serentiy

I have had great success with essential oils. Not only do they smell exotic they do wonders for your mental and physical health. These substances have been used in healing, cosmetics, and a sign of wealth over thousands of years.
My website has lots of information on ho to use, which I will add to continually .
When I had my Sinus tumor in 2009, the pain was like a thousand needles being stuck in your face and jaw. Yes I used the drugs but added Frankincense 2-3 daily over the effected area. It really added to the soothing effect. I blogged about Metanex for nerve damage and add some Frankincense to this it really does make a difference. I still use daily on my face. I had several cranial nerves intertwined in my tumor. I still have residual nerve pain although the tumor is gone. I have not needed any pain meds just rub on the frankincense.
Lavender is wonderful for cancer patients as it helps promote sleep and calmness. Rub on the soles of your feet at bedtime and on your wrists. Peppermint is another wonderful oil to help. I will write about these further. Lemon can be used for cleaning, adding a drop to water before drinking, especially when you come across a heavily chlorinated water. I find in many eating places they serve water, I do not know about you, but the chlorine smell is soooo strong. I add 1-2 drops of lemon oil. It helps the digestion as well.

Heart Healing Post Cancer

In 2004, after heavy radiation to my sternum, to try and stop the disintegration of my spine , I
suffered severe heart interference. My heart rate went up to 200 beats per minute. I had to be hospitalized to get me stable. I was only in 2 days but it took a week to get my heart back into rhythm. I was then on beta blockers for 6 years. My heart problems began to increase so we discussed doing an Ablation. This is a relatively new procedure where they go through the femoral and neck veins, pierce the chamber of your heart, get it to malfunction, and then burn off the offending malfunctioning node. I had this procedure Monday 3/15/2010 and all went exceedingly well. I was home by 7 pm and have had a good week. This allows me to take less medications, up my natural supplements and improve my health.
Vit D, or Cod Liver Oil, CQ10, Magnesium, Ribose. These are all wonderful supplements to help the heart as well as improve the immune system. I am uploading information on essential oils to my website www.healingcancernaturally.net Check it out! Have a great and fun weekend.

Another Healthy Day/Natural Neuropathy Meds

Every Day one survives and is health is a blessing. I go to Cancer Compass and read about the thousands of cancer sufferers and their problems. I was reading about Neuropthay. That is severe nerve pain from the side effects of the chemotherapy. Someone posted this information. Her doctor gave her METANX it is a combination of Vitamin B's. Folic Acid, B6 and B12. These are the vitamins that take care of the nerves. It has been helping many people.
The B Vitamins are known for coating the nerves themselves, thus reducing the pain. No it is not a pain medication per se, but it has a similar effect.

Have a great day!!!
